Hi,
My name is Amanda. This year I started high school. Oh yeah, not only did I start high school but Sandy started too. In fact she’s the reason I’m able to get to school. If you’re wondering who “Sandy” is she’s my best friend, my caretaker and everything that gets me through the day. She’s also the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. She has a pink nose, melt your heart hazel eyes and the softest coat. Yup, Sandy is a dog. She’s my Service Dog.
Up until last spring I wasn’t able to go to school at all. Just the thought of entering the building terrified me. Then I got Sandy. She is everything to me. Sandy goes everywhere I go. She sleeps with me and never leaves my side. I’m not sure if anybody can really understand how she has changed my life.
She gave me my life back and I love her more than I could say. You know that feeling when your heart overflows. That’s what I feel when I have Sandy. I would still be out of school if it wasn’t for her…in fact I wouldn’t be able go out at all without her.
When I said she’s my best friend I mean it! She’s allowed me to be myself again and I owe everything to her.
What is Amanda’s Dog all about?
It’s about Amanda and her Service Dog named Sandy. Amanda is a young person with PTSD. Sandy makes it possible for her to live her life. Before Sandy came along Amanda would struggle every day with what most people consider normal day-to-day activities. Going to school. Going to a friend’s to hang out. Just leaving the house for any purpose could be impossible.
The cost of this freedom for Amanda is $18,000. We need your help to raise this money.
Service dogs have been used to help individuals with disabilities for years. We’re all familiar with Seeing Eye Dogs for the blind. Over the years service dogs have played vital roles in helping people live productive and happy lives.
Sandy has given Amanda the confidence to live her life. With Sandy at her side Amanda can enjoy the activities she loves. The two of them go everywhere together. We’re fortunate to live in a country where our laws grant people with disabilities equal access to all public places and events.

Why is the cost of a Service Dog so high?
These special dogs receive up to two years of intensive training. The dog must pass certification tests before being designated a Service Dog. The dog and Amanda will spend countless hours with the trainer learning as a team. Veterinary care, travel expenses and training make up some of the cost of certifying of Sandy as a Service Dog. Amanda and Sandy will have on going follow up visits and telephone support as required.
